Kamala Harris on pure defense
Kamala Harris is now running a purely defensive campaign, not talking about policy (or to the press), and now campaigning in blue States.
One doesn’t win a war – or a political campaign – by defense, but by attack. Even then the most effective political offensives are one’s own proposals for public policy. Vice-President Kamala Harris has chosen to play a purely defensive campaign – a campaign almost designed to lose. So election integrity will be the prime consideration for Donald Trump and his down-ticket fellow candidates. The last Democrat to run a purely defensive campaign, achieved “stair-step” vote totals. Occam’s Razor and the Law of Averages tell us how – and Americans do not want to see that again.
Kamala Harris does not want to talk about policy…
Yesterday afternoon, Michael Austin at The Western Journal reported that many Democratic Party leaders are telling Harris not to talk about public policy. That could be because every time she has talked policy, someone in the audience has mentioned an inconvenient truth. In fact, she’s already part of the Biden administration, and is as responsible for its policy failures as Biden himself. That’s why we call the office Vice-President, not Deputy President. A vice-anything acts in the place of his or her principal; a deputy merely follows orders. The public knows this instinctively.
Worse for Kamala Harris, everyone but the die-hard communists knows that the concrete policy proposals she has mentioned, will fail. Price controls on food are the obvious booby-prize example. The last Presidents to try price controls, had to defend shortages and rationing. Rationing has its appeal to tyrants, but it is not a policy for any society other than the extremely limited “society” aboard a lifeboat on the open sea.
But no Democrat today can talk about a truly workable policy, addicted as they are to power and spite. And so rather than reexamine her policy positions, her advisers tell her to say nothing about policy.
… or to the press
Furthermore, Kamala Harris has suffered one embarrassment after another from the press – even her legacy media allies. They mean well – by her – but are just as tone-deaf as she. Their handling of the Arlington Hoax will probably take the grand booby prize.
So now she pretends to listen to voices in “ear buds” to excuse herself from answering shouted questions. Christina Laila at The Gateway Pundit shared some examples. Harris struck that pose yesterday while scurrying across the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews to board her transport. What made it worse was holding her smartphone to her ear while wearing ear buds.
She flew to Detroit, where she put on truly cringe-worthy performances. This included affecting another cheesy accent, this being her attempt at a Detroit accent.
But apparently she didn’t use that cheesy accent in Pittsburgh:
It also includes typical lefty union platitudes.
This actually will never impress one union: the Teamsters. According to their President, the Teamsters split down the middle between Republican and Democratic members.
Part of a phony image
Cheesy accents are part of a phony image Kamala Harris is now cultivating. Jim Hoft (TGP) mentioned another part: a backstory that includes preparing a Southern dish called collard greens. Apparently she told a voter in Georgia that she once washed her collard greens in the bathtub.
I have a friend who had a Christmas party, Christmas Eve every year, and she asked me to make the greens for a party every year. And I am not lying to you that I would make so many greens that I’d need to wash them in the bathtub. I’m telling you the truth.
She’s so brazen about this that she released a video of the exchange on her own account!
There’s just one problem with her story: it’s not believable. Her background simply does not include residing in the American Southeast long enough to know what collard greens are. And Christmas? What can she know about Christmas? Her father was a Marxist professor – and Marxists are atheists. So must she be, to appear before pro-abortion rallies.
Kamala Harris defending blue States that are supposed to be safe!
Mike LaChance (TGP) noticed something interesting yesterday morning. Why is Kamala Harris scheduling events in New Hampshire, Minnesota, and Virginia? Mark Halperin, whose sympathies seem to lie with her, noticed the same thing.
CNAV and its sources must have been right: Virginia is in play, along with Minnesota and New Hampshire. Halperin speculates that Democratic internal polling shows the race close in those States. People wondered what Trump and Sen. J . D. Vance (R-Ohio) thought they were doing, holding rallies in Minnesota after the Republican National Convention. Suppose Harris keeps her bounce? Only she didn’t. In fact she got no bounce from the Democratic Convention, nor from that CNN interview, either. Even Newsweek publicly cringed at that one.
So Trump did the right thing: force Kamala Harris, first to select the Governor of Minnesota for a running mate, and now to campaign actively in friendly territory. Breitbart reported yesterday that President Biden will start campaigning actively for Harris. In fact, that’s happening, and the results are already cringe-worthy. Biden sniffed a baby on the tarmac in Pittsburgh,
then slurred his speech worse than ever at the event.
We are the greatest manufacturing city, county in the world, state in the world, city in the world!
Note another thing he said: “Kamala and I will build on that progress.” Has he forgotten already that he dropped out of the race?
Analysis
Kamala Harris is now fully on the defensive. She’s hiding not only her policy prescriptions but also that she has power now to repair the economy. Except that her prescriptions would not repair the economy but only make it worse. Lower prices on empty shelves will not fill anyone’s bellies. And now she is defending States she once might have thought safe.
Of course, part of the reason those States are not as safe as she thought, could be the failures of election integrity that prevailed in those States in 2020. Glenn Youngkin swept Virginia in the next year after Biden and Harris “won.” Republicans took Steve Bannon’s advice and applied to become Officers of Election (poll workers)and accredited Party challengers (poll watchers). Republicans had parity in Officers of Election for the first time in years. True, Terence McAuliffe’s own policy principle (“parents have no place in their children’s education”) didn’t help him any. Kamala Harris has made the same mistake McAuliffe made. If Glenn Youngkin could carry Virginia, so can Trump – and the Democrats know it. So they’re going to try to cheat – and Republicans must not let them.
Nor should Republicans squander the momentum they clearly have – nor forget something else they need to do. The National Popular Vote Compact now boasts membership commanding 76 percent of 270 electoral votes. Republicans must reverse that, or condemn themselves to a permanent shut-out as America forever elects Presidents of the City-dwellers.
