Why do you believe what Obama says?
In 1951, the movie Royal Wedding was released, starring Fred Astaire and Jane Powell. One of the catchy tunes in the movie was a song entitled: “How Could You Believe Me When I Said I Loved You, When You Know I’ve Been a Liar All My Life?”
Many a wise saying has been recorded in Hollywood songs and movies. Believe it or not, this may be one of them. This particular tune plays in my head nearly every time I hear the man now occupying the White House speak. But perhaps I’m wrong. Perhaps he’s an honest man and not the Liar in Chief. So, let’s take a look at some of the statements he’s made over the past six years.
I must admit that it was difficult putting this list together – not because there was a dearth of information but because there was so much that it was hard to decide what to include and not to include.
If you believe these things, I’ll sell you the Brooklyn Bridge
Let’s take a look at some of the “un”truths coming out of the mouth of this particular “un”truthful politician:
You certainly know that he wasn’t telling the truth when he said that the average family would see a $2500 reduction in the cost of their medical coverage, if you fall into the category of the “average” family and have looked at your pay stub recently. And you now know that he wasn’t telling the truth when he named the health care bill the Affordable Patient Protection Act – since it’s not affordable and patients aren’t protected under it.
Planned Parenthood provides mammograms.
Well, okay, they do. I’ll give him that much, so let’s call this a half truth since their main source of business is abortions. Reported in Spero News.
We got back every dime we used to rescue the financial system.
Hmmm – maybe he meant to say every dime on the dollar.
Benghazi was caused by an internet video…
The State Department has no explanation for this one. As a matter of fact, the State Department has no explanations at all, for anything.
My budget will cut the deficit by $4 Trillion over 10 years.
Are you laughing or crying?
I want to in-source. The American automobile industry has come roaring back…So now I want to say what we did with the auto industry, we can do it in manufacturing across America. Let’s make sure advanced, high-tech manufacturing jobs take root here, not in China. And that means supporting investment here. Governor Romney … invested in companies that were called “pioneers” of outsourcing. I don’t want to outsource.
I guess this is what he learned from his Economic Adviser, whom he has appointed as the head of the Jobs Council, Jeffrey Immelt of G.E., who is moving more of G.E.’s infrastructure to China – not to mention that G.E. doesn’t pay corporate taxes.
My favorite:
You didn’t build that.
Too ridiculous to even comment on.
I will walk on that picket line with you, if workers are denied the right to bargain.
Just curious – did any of Wisconsin’s teachers see Mr. BO walking on the picket lines with them when they were protesting their right to collective bargaining?
I’ve done more for Israel’s security than any President ever.
He must have meant that he sent them aid – oh, no, that was the Islamic Extremists who took over Libya.
Every idea that we’ve put forward are ones that traditionally have been supported by Democrats and Republicans alike.
If you have a clue as to what he’s talking about, please leave a comment.
The sequester is not something that I’ve proposed. It is something that Congress has proposed. It will not happen.
What does he call what has been happening?
These are obligations that the United States has taken on in the past. Congress has run up the credit card, and we now have an obligation to pay our bills.
Okay. This is true. The Democratically controlled Congress in the first four years of his administration did run up the credit card.
The fence between US and Mexico is “practically complete.” Who considers 5% to be “practically complete?”
The rich don’t pay their fair share.
Wow, it’s harder catching him in a lie than I thought. He’s rich by my standards and he doesn’t pay his fair share.
Reform will also rein in the abuse and excess that nearly brought down our financial system. It will finally bring transparency to the kinds of complex, risky transactions that helped trigger the financial crisis.
The health care bill will not increase the deficit by one dime.
True once again. It did not increase anything by one dime – it increased many things by millions of dimes.
If you like the health care plan you have you can keep it.
Right again. However, it will cost you a small fortune.
Under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.
Let’s see, does that include Planned Parenthood? Oh, I forgot. They do mammograms.
ObamaCare Fee is not a new tax.
But the Supreme Court ruled that it is. They must be lying.
I have visited all 57 states!!!!!
“We have run out of places in the US to drill for oil.
In which one of the 57 states? Hey, I thought that Alaska and North Dakota were states! I must be wrong.
The Health Care Package will pay for itself.
Yes, it will – through the deductions taken from our paychecks.
Obama says he’ll save average family $8,000 in gas. Let’s see, in 2009 when he took office, the average price for a gallon of gasoline was $1.90. In February 2013, it was $3.64. Maybe he meant he’ll save them that money because they won’t have to drive to work because they won’t have a job.
Now didn’t he say he would cut the budget in half by the end of his first term? Does anybody know how the budget is doing these days? Some of us don’t because we can’t count that high.
I will not be commenting on the following. I suddenly find myself at a loss for words:
I am not somebody who promotes same-sex marriage.
There will be no earmarks in the $787 Billion Stimulus.
Guantanamo bay will be closed within a year.
I won’t raise taxes on those making less than 250,000 per year.
No more wiretapping of citizens.
Mr. Ayers is
a guy who lives in my neighborhood [but] not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis.
Ann Dunham [BO’s mother] spent the months before her death in 1995 fighting with insurance companies that sought to deny her the coverage she needed to pay for treatment.
I didn’t know Jeremiah Wright was radical.
I will have the most transparent administration in History.
We will go through our federal budget – page by page, line by line – eliminating those programs we don’t need, and insisting that those we do operate in a sensible cost-effective way.
When a bill lands on my desk, the American people will have 5 days to review it before I sign it.
I will have troops out of Iraq by March 31, 2009.
I don’t have lobbyists.
I have always been against Iraq.
I barely know [Tony] Rezko.
My church is like any other Christian church.
Americans want higher taxes.
The stimulus money will be spent on “shovel ready” jobs.
And now – the biggest and the most offensive lie of all:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
All of this and more – but people still believe this man. I can’t imagine why. Either BO is the biggest liar every to occupy the White House, or he’s delusional, or perhaps he never gave up those drugs he used in high school.
The real problem may not be the Liar in Chief after all. It may be the millions of people who believe the words that come out of his mouth.
