Second amendment: they don’t understand
What is wrong with Eric Holder, Joe Biden, and for that matter Barack Obama? What is wrong with the governors of New York, Connecticut, and maybe New Jersey, too? (Not to mention Illinois?) They simply do not understand the Second Amendment to the Constitution. To its purpose, to the reason James Madison wrote it, none of these people have a clue.
No respect for the Second Amendment
Gun owners in Connecticut and now New York are refusing to register their guns. Authorities threaten them with jail. (If any sheriff will arrest them! Many sheriffs have sworn not to execute any such arrest warrants.) No matter. The law-enforcement officers who try to jail 100,000 people, risk civil war by one account.
Yesterday Eric Holder suggested the most brass-hat idiotic idea ever to come from a politician or an attorney general at any level. He wants anyone who owns a gun to wear a bracelet. Without this bracelet, their guns won’t fire. And by means of this bracelet, the government can track you.
It’s those kinds of things that I think we want to try to explore so that we can make sure that people have the ability to enjoy their Second Amendment rights, but at the same time decreasing the misuse of weapons that lead to the kinds of [tragic killings] that we see on a daily basis.
He has got to be kidding!!! Only a lunk-headed jerk would actually say a person, thus encumbered (and tracked!), could still “enjoy [his] Second Amendment rights.”
The problem: he is not kidding. And many Members of Congress take him seriously. Who can forget Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), saying if she but had the votes, she would order every gun owner in America to surrender his or her guns?
The problem goes beyond Congress. Last weekend, on the Fox News Channel program Cashin’ In, Juan Williams actually said,
I think we need America to be a gun-free zone … and I’m amused that you guys are so quick to run away from the easy availability of guns as having some responsibility in all of these tragedies.
Someone needed to remind him: the Second Amendment means the country cannot be a gun-free zone.
The problem is not the “easy availability of guns.” It is the differential availability of guns. It is that guns are available to some but not to others. But don’t expect a Juan Williams or an Eric Holder to understand that. Or to admit understanding if they did. They don’t want real safety. They want control.
What the Second Amendment is for
The Second Amendment reads:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
And what is a true militia? The militia is not an arm of the government. Therefore it is not the National Guard. It is every ordinary citizen who has a gun and knows how to use it.
What’s more, it is the reset button on the Constitution. James Madison understood that. How else did the War for Independence start? British troops tried to confiscate the weapons of the colonials at Lexington, Massachusetts. Someone fired a shot, and battle broke out.
James Madison anticipated the people might have to fight another Battle of Lexington. Remember that when Eric Holder, or anyone else, starts talking brass-hat nonsense about “smart gun bracelets.”
