Love of a woman
Commenting on the Torah portion, the Life of Sara, Rabbi Matis Weinberg writes: “With the Cave of Machpela, Avraham discovered … the intensity of his love of Sara, the depth of his roots in the earth, and his own need to remain rooted …”
In a marginal note, Weinberg quotes Simone Weil: “To be rooted is perhaps the most important and the least recognized need of the human soul.” How pallid is the love displayed by Israel’s secular and religious Zionists. How tamely they yielded to the Oslovian land for nothing-but-death process!
Lack of love in Israel’s rulers
If anything is lacking among Israel’s ruling elites, it is love, a caring love for the one and only Jewish homeland. Thus it is that the late Yitzhak Rabin scornfully said of the Golan Heights, “This is tank land, not holy land.” Thus it is that under Rabin’s anti-Jewish rule as both Prime Minister and Defense Minister, the words “Eretz Yisrael,” as well as the words “Judaism” and “Zionism,” were stricken from the Soldiers Code of Ethics.
Thus it is that Ehud Barak, Israel’s Chief of Staff at the time, raised no objection to this mindless de-Judaizing of Israel’s Defense Forces. We saw this anemic Judaism when Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon denounced a Jewish soldier who killed a subdued Arab terrorist in Hebron. This is the same Ya’alon who supports the creation of a Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria.
Loveless and thoughtless Jews want to make Israel a “State of its Citizens,” as in contradistinction to the State of the Jews! Is it any wonder that Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority scorns PM Netanyahu demand that the PA recognize Israel as the State of the Jews? Does Bibi love Judaism more than himself?
So little did former Supreme Court President Aharon Barak love Judaism that he instructed Israeli judges, contrary to the Foundations of Law Act of 1980, that Jewish law should not be given a preferred status as a persuasive source when there is doubt as to the meaning of a particular provision of any statute. He wrote: “It should never be said that a particular [legal] system has the primary claim to interpretive inspiration.” (This is the position of the U.S. Supreme Court thanks to Barack Obama’s two Supreme Court appointments Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor, who share his multiculturalism. Like Obama, they would use international law to override the U.S. Constitution.)
As elaborated in my book, Jewish Statesmanship, the Supreme Court, by forsaking the Jewish legal and moral heritage, has been assaulting the emotions and expectations of Israel’s older population, while rendering young people rootless and aimless, placing all at the mercy of personal whim, chance, and accident. But when all is said and done, what else is to be expected when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu endorsed the creation of a Muslim-Arab state in Judea and Samaria, Israel’s heartland?
However, the loss of Israel’s heartland should be understood not only in political or in psychological terms, as per most right-wing critics of the Oslovian “peace process.” The Jews of Israel are suffering the humiliating and deadly consequences of a regime ruled by political and judicial eunuchs who scorn the Torah. They know nothing of love!◙
