Kavanaugh for SCOTUS: an open letter

Published

on

Judge Brett Kavanaugh. He will decide birthright citizenship. Christine Ford accuses him of ungentlemanly conduct--and sanitizes her history. He is a casualty of the cold war between the Democrats and America.

Herewith your editor’s open letter to two members of the United States Senate concerning the nomination of The Hon. Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court of the United States of America. The two Senators are Tim Kaine and Mark R. Warner, both Democrats from Virginia. (Senator Kaine now must stand for re-election this year; Senator Warner will do so two years from now.) This letter appeals to these two men to stop being Democrats, and be Virginians instead. In the name of every value a Virginian once held dear (and hopefully still does), they should vote to confirm Justice Kavanaugh, now of the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, to the Supreme Court.

Senator

As a Virginian, not only resident but born and bred (at least for the first five years of my natural life), I urge you to set aside the values of the Democratic Party, and embrace the values of a Virginian (according to the examples of Patrick Henry, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and many others). To that end, I urge you to vote IN FAVOR (AYE) of confirming the nomination of The Hon. Brett Kavanaugh, now of the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, for elevation to the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

His Honor has served on the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia for twelve years, as I understand it. In all that time he has built a reputation for scrupulous adherence to the Constitution. He is exactly the sort of person James Madison would have wanted on the Court—and whom John Jay would have liked to have as an associate.

Kavanaugh is innocent of the charges

I mention the spurious and specious allegations against him, only to condemn them in the strongest possible terms. I hold him entirely and absolutely innocent of the charges which certain persons have laid upon him. One such person, I suspect, might have hypnotized herself to plant a false memory to “beat” a “lie-detector” test. She certainly has sanitized her on-line history. Seven background investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation now attest to his personal character. The latest such investigation, furthermore, does not corroborate these allegations in any way, shape or form.

And I find it shameful in the extreme that a Committee of the Senate should give space to an actress refugee from the Ted Mack Amateur Hour—and a now-known “fellow” of the Central Intelligence Agency—to repeat charges that would never have prompted an experienced and conscientious assistant district attorney even to seek a warrant to search the premises of any person of interest. This is a travesty of Senate process and a disgrace to the Senate.

The doxing affair

And what are these Democratic Party values I now ask you to repudiate? Simply this. Today I learn of the arrest of an employee (or perhaps former employee) of Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Calif.). He also is a former employee of Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.). The complaint says he stole the personal and private contact and residence information of several members of the Senate. He then released this information surreptitiously to an on-line “encyclopedia.” Furthermore, he utilized an Internetworking Protocol (IP) address assigned to the offices of yet a third member of your Party. That would be Representative Maxine Waters (D-Calif.). So there you have three elected officials who are members of your Party, including a Member of the Senate itself, conspiring together to invade the privacy and arguably threaten the lives of your fellow Senators.

You now have the opportunity to declare that you do not care to defend and propound this kind of process.

I would hope no Virginian would ever do anything similar to another.

And to make that repudiation abundantly clear, you have one easy means:

Vote TO CONFIRM The Hon. Brett Kavanaugh in his elevation to the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
