Hillary Clinton says if Donald Trump wins 2024 Presidency, it could be ‘the end of our Democracy’
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has predicted that Donald Trump will run for president again in 2024, and said that if the business mogul wins a second time, it could be the “end of our democracy.”
In an interview with Sunday Today, Clinton told host Willie Geist that if she were “a betting person right now,” she’d say “Trump is going to run again.”
Clinton, who ran for president in 2016 and was defeated by Trump in what is deemed as one of the biggest election upsets in modern political history, said Trump “seems to be setting himself up to do that, and if he’s not held accountable, he gets to do it again. I think that could be the end of our democracy.”
Clinton argued that she wants “people to understand that this could be a make-or-break point,” adding that if Trump “or someone of his ilk were once again to be elected president, especially if he had a Congress that would do his bidding, you will not recognize this country.”
Geist pressed the former Secretary of State for the Obama administration if she had feelings of guilt regarding Trump’s upsetting win in 2016. “Of course. I tried to warn people. I tried to make the case that this was really dangerous,” she explained.
In the 2016 election, Clinton beat Trump in the popular vote at 48% to Trump’s 46%, but in the Electoral College, Trump edged out the veteran politician at 304 to 227.
Meanwhile, Trump, at an event in Orlando on Sunday, hinted that he will run for the White House again in 2024. Speaking to a crowd of supporters the former president said he won in 2016 and insisted that he won against Joe Biden in 2020, “and it looks like we might have to think about very strongly a third time.”
