Elon Musk says upcoming Twitter feature tells people if they’ve been ‘shadow-banned’
Elon Musk announced on Thursday that he intends to to introduce an option to make it possible for users to determine if the company has limited how many other users are able to view their posts.
“Twitter is working on a software update that will show your true account status, so you know clearly if you’ve been shadowbanned, the reason why and how to appeal,” Musk tweeted on Thursday, though he didn’t say when the feature would be rolled out.
The move is one that would fall in line with Musk’s promise of transparency. While Musk has promised people that Twitter will protect people’s freedom of speech, he said that they do not have “freedom of reach,” and “Negative/hate tweets will be max deboosted & demonetized.”
The announcement comes in the midst a new release of internal Twitter documents that have revealed the inner-workings of the company, before Musk bought it.
Journalist Bari Weiss recently shared further “Twitter Files” revealing how the company has restricted the reach of certain accounts, tweets or topics that it believes to be potentially harmful, including by limiting their ability to appear in the search or trending sections of the platform.
Weiss’ tweets follow the first “Twitter Files” drop earlier this month from journalist Matt Taibbi, who shared documents pertaining to company’s role in censoring a New York Post story about Hunter Biden.
