California was rocked by its second mass shooting in less than a day after a gunman opened fire at a mushroom farm and trucking facility in Half Moon Bay just hours after another shooter killed 11 at a dance hall in Monterey Park.

The Half Moon Bay shooting occurred on Monday afternoon around 2PM at Mountain Mushroom Farm in San Mateo County. The suspect opened fire and killed employees at several separate locations consecutively, killing seven people before being detained by authorities and taken into custody. He was identified as Chunli Zhao, a 67-year old resident of Half Moon Bay, and the second elderly Asian man to commit a mass shooting in California in a 24 hour period.

According to law enforcement officials, Zhao was a former employee of the mushroom farm, and appears to have targeted specific victims. He shot three of them in the trailers where they lived on the farm before shooting two more workers in the field. Police say children were witnesses to the horrific incident. Zhao then traveled a few miles to nearby Concord Farms, where he shot three more people. Seven of the victims died from their wounds and one is being treated at a local hospital.

The shooting took place shortly after 72-year old Huu Can Tran shot and killed 11 people at a dance studio where a Lunar New Year celebration was taking place. California Governor Gavin Newsom Tweeted on Monday, “At the hospital meeting with victims of a mass shooting when I get pulled away to be briefed about another shooting. This time in Half Moon Bay. Tragedy upon tragedy.”
