Jeanne Shaheen rats you out
Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-New Hampshire) talks a good game about fighting for liberty. She has to. New Hampshire puts “Live Free Or Die” on license plates. (As your correspondent, who once lived in New Hampshire, remembers.) But this morning came news showing her a hypocrite. She ratted the American people out to the Internal Revenue Service in March of 2012. And the IRS assured her it would act on the information she laid with them. So much for her image as a friend of liberty.
Latest about Jeanne Shaheen
The Daily Caller developed this news exclusively last night. Jeanne Shaheen “rode point” for five other Democratic Senators. They included Charles M. Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Al Franken (D-Mich.). On March 9, 2012, Jeanne Shaheen and company sent a letter to the IRS. They asked them to look more closely at “social welfare organizations” who claim tax exemption under Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. They specifically demanded this “bright line test”: that 51 percent of all their activities must be “non-political.” They never said what that meant.
And on April 25, 2012, Mr. William J. Wilkins, “the [de facto] President’s man at the IRS,” wrote back. He pointed out the regulations on political activity by social-welfare organizations “have been in place since 1959.) He said the Tax Exempt Government Entities Division (the Cincy Office, that Lois Lerner ran) would “consider” changes the Senators sought. He even left some contact information. (See also this near-duplicate article at foxnews.com.)
That’s not what Jeanne Shaheen said before!
On May 13, 2013, this same Senator Jeanne Shaheen noisily condemned the IRS targeting of Tea Party and similar 501(c)(4) applicants. She still shows that statement on her official Senate web page.
The news that the IRS targeted organizations for additional review based on their political affiliations is deeply troubling and deserves full investigation. This was an outrageous abuse of power that goes against some of our nation’s founding principles. The IRS cannot be in the business of singling out organizations based on their political beliefs, and the President should act quickly and decisively in holding those responsible for this abuse accountable.

She said that in May of 2013. She said this over a year after specifically asking the IRS to do what she now condemned them for.
In contrast, former Senator Scott Brown (R-Mass.), now running as a New Hampshire resident, said on October 14 the Commissioner of Internal Revenue should shut down the Cincinnati Office. (See also this article in The Hill.)
Jeanne Shaheen, furthermore, cried “Conspiracy!” over the weekend. The Census Bureau released a report showing most of the new jobs in New Hampshire went to immigrants, not natives. So Jeanne Shaheen said the Census Bureau was now part of a right-wing conspiracy. (See here and here.)
Republicans have known all along Democrats on the Hill gave the IRS marching orders. The Wilkins memo clearly shows collusion among the IRS, six Democratic Senators (including Jeanne Shaheen), and the White House. It also shows Jeanne Shaheen hypocritically presents herself as a friend of liberty while ratting out Americans trying to protect or reclaim theirs.
