Although the renowned Rebbe Nachman of Breslov (1772-1810) does not speak of Islam, his understanding of mendacity may shed light on the nature of Israel’s Islamic enemy. Indeed, his book The Anatomy of the Soul (Jerusalem: Breslov Research Institute, 1998) opens up a new way of understanding the affinity to bloodshed on the part of countless Muslims.

On Islam, blood, and mendacity

Writing under the subheading “Victory or Truth,” Rebbe Nachman declares:

Those who possess the evil characteristic of always desiring to outdo others cannot accept the truth. When people have the desire to always be right even when the truth is plain before their eyes, they will distort it in order to maintain their imagined superiority. This applies to all areas of life [and includes the behavior of nations] (p. 68).

Rebbe Nachman contends that the source of the urge to be victorious, along with the desire to control others, is none other than one’s own blood. Isaiah 63:3 states: ‘V’yetz nitzcham – Their blood was sprinkled.’ The root of the Hebrew NiTzCham … ‘their blood’ is NeTzaCh … which also translates as ‘victory.’ The desire to be victorious is naturally inherent in the blood.

A related trait of Arab-Islamic culture is the military doctrine of dissimulation, or “taqiyya,” which is drawn explicitly from the words of Muhammad and from the examples set by him and his successors. The terrifying significance of taqiyya is revealed by Raymond Ibrahim in the Winter 2010 edition of the Middle East Quarterly.

Returning to Rebbe Nachman, he says that “By blemishing one’s speech, for example, by speaking falsehood, one blemishes one’s bloodstream, and, by extension, one’s very soul” (p. 69).

With this in mind, let’s consult a book authored by the late Hebrew University Professor Yehoshafat Harkabi, the reputed mentor of Shimon Peres.  In Arab Attitudes to Israel, Harkabi quotes the intellectually liberated Arab sociologist Sonia Hamady, who admits that “Lying is a widespread habit among the Arabs, and they have a low idea of truth.” Moshe Dayan put it this way:

[The Arabs] live in a world which is not truth and they do this almost like a man who needs hashish in order to feel himself present in the Garden of Eden. Reality is hell! The aim is therefore to swallow a lie-pill, which will give the sensation of Paradise. It often seems to me that all Arabs – and on all levels – act as though under the influence of drugs. Yet illusion is worse than a lie. You make a lie consciously and you dominate it, while the illusion will finally dominate you.

The folly of land for peace

Given the notorious mendacity of Arab culture, only a ship of fools would negotiate with the Palestinians in the expectation of achieving genuine peace. This is a verifiable fact, not an ethnic slur. Here is corroborating evidence.

On June 15, 2013 a Saudi columnist … wrote an article in the Saudi newspaper Al-Sharq titled “Israel, the everlasting Arab treasure.” The columnist, Abdusalam Alwael, is a very highly educated Saudi who gained a bachelor’s degree from a Saudi university, his master’s degree from a university in California and his doctorate degree from a university in Virginia. He basically said that Israel was a bounty for Arab dictators who use the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to rule their countries and make a lot of money by just issuing hollow threats to Israel. “Israel is a moneymaking machine for Arab dictators and many Palestinian corrupt officials….”

Now let us link the biology of mendacity to the politics of mendacity via Israel’s policy of “territory for peace.”

…and Israel’s secular elites do not want a truly Jewish state

Since every Israeli prime minister since Oslo 1993 knew what Moshe Dayan knew two decades earlier, how are we to explain their willingness to yield Jewish land for what they knew to be a lie, a sham peace, and to the extent of creating a Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria, Israel’s heartland?

Why did they want to give this land to professional Arab Jew-killers? Surely these realists harbored no illusions about transforming the Palestinians into peace-loving bourgeois democrats by providing them with indoor toilets, television, and Toyotas?

Since these prime ministers were not idiots or insane, what motivated their outwardly idiotic or insane behavior – giving Jew-killers the geo-strategic means, Judea and Samaria, of annihilating Israel? Did the Americans have a gun on the head of each Israeli prime minister and cabinet minister? Or did these politicians have a Machiavellian motive for giving Judea and Samaria to the Arabs via a Politics of Mendacity?

After all, wouldn’t the loss of Judea and Samaria with Jerusalem to the disciples of Muhammad disembowel Israel? Wouldn’t it crush the Jewish people’s sense of national and historic identity?

Conversely given a high Jewish birthrate and the additional land needed to accommodate this rising Jewish population, the pressure on the government to declare Jewish sovereignty over Judea and Samaria would be overwhelming.

Judea and Samaria would then become the most prolific center of Judaism and Zionism.  More Jews from abroad, mostly religious and fairly wealthy, would come to Israel. This would radically change the ratio of religious to secular Jews in this country. It does not require an Einstein to see that the secular parties in Israel would soon be relegated to the dust heap of history.

It is in this light that we are to understand why Likud PM Ariel Sharon, with the collaboration of Israel’s ultra-secular Supreme Court President Aharon Barak, implemented the disengagement from Gaza on the one hand, and why Likud PM Netanyahu endorsed the creation of a Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria on the other.

The goal of de-Judaizing Israel, of making the Jews a “normal” people, has ever been the goal of Israel’s secular elites.☼
