The House Republican Conference still hasn't installed a Speaker

I am sure you all have heard this ol’ knee slapper before—how many Republicans does it take to install a Speaker? The punch line evades me at this moment, but I remember it having something to do with idiots, doorknobs, and … I think humping? It’ll come to me. Until then, I digress.

Republican Conference in disarray?

The current display of disarray by House Republican members is nothing short of embarrassing. You know it. I know it. Democrats love it. The sheer idiocy of members voting along Matt Gaetz, et. al., to not support Kevin McCarthy and, instead, vote for Jim Jordan can only be seen as a pride play for power.

For Christ’s sake, Jim Jordan voted for McCarthy and gave a rousing speech in his support. You look intellectually limited by then voting for Jim Jordan.

To make matters more interesting, both President Trump and Mitch McConnell support McCarthy for House leadership. That is like getting water and oil to mix. Or lightening striking in the same place twice.

What is the aim of these 31 Republican House Freedom Caucus members? It surely cannot be the betterment of the country or party. Nor having anything to do with freedom. Do these Freedom Caucus members want another Democrat Speaker and a power sharing agreement with them? What would that tell the rest of the country who voted for a Republican majority, albeit, slim?

Democrats may not govern the country better. But they do govern their party well.

Cause for alarm?

The charade being put on by the Freedom Caucus members is going to crush them and the GOP in the long run. Unless they get their acts together, quickly, the damage is going to be consequential. And getting anything or anyone in government to act quickly is a fool’s errand.

Instead, Americans will see that the Republican Party does not mean business, clearly cannot govern a country when it cannot even bring together its own party, and Americans will reward the Freedom Caucus and Republican Party as such. And rightfully so.

Greed is one of the Seven Deadly Sins. Matt Gaetz, et al., should remember that, before they become blighted due to their own myopia. The United States and Americans would be better off, too.
