Democrats in trouble

The Democrats are in trouble – a trouble of their own making, because they still refuse to look inward, even after a broad-based loss.

The Democratic Party is in serious trouble, because they refuse to look inward at what cost them this last election. A generation (or two) of expurgating their moderate wing has set them up for defeat after defeat in upcoming elections. Worse than that, they face an enemy ready to hale them into court – for turning America into the kind of dystopia that featured only in movies – including failed TV pilots – that featured the wrong villains. God has blessed the American people with heroes and leaders who have set in motion the reversal of this change. (And that without firing a shot in anger!) Faced with that, the Democrats should look inward – as they did during the Bush Senior years, fielding a winning moderate. But they won’t – and if they did, they’d have to wait another generation for another Bill Clinton.

Latest news and commentary about the Democrats

This morning, Paul Ingrassia, at The Gateway Pundit, reviewed an upcoming documentary about the career of John Eastman. (The Eastman Dilemma: Lawfare or Justice, 2025.) For the simple act of agreeing to represent a client, Prof. Eastman lost not only his law professorship but also his law license. That client was, of course, Donald Trump, whom Eastman advised to request that then-Vice-President Mike Pence return questionable slates of electors back to their respective States for re-examination of the elections that produced them. Those States included Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Arizona, at minimum.

For that the Democrats accused him of trying to overturn a due and just electoral decision in those States. Vice-President Pence, of course, turned out to be a swamp creature, no different from Joe Biden or Barack Obama. Everyone knows the result. Pence refused to act – and he cannot claim that the January 6 Event precipitated his refusal. Everyone knows by now that the January 6 Event was a false-flag pseudo-operation. Nor did five million Republican voters split their ticket. The Election of 2024 finished with a significantly lower total vote than that for 2020. Recent evidence shows that the most obvious kind of fraud – invalid voter registrations and spurious mail-in ballots – is easy to find for any investigator having the motive, and the courage, to look. (To say nothing of how people knew Joe Biden was a senile dotard even during the campaign.)

Now it’s their turn to face a lawsuit

Yesterday morning, Wayne Allen Root, Assistant Editor of TGP, discussed the latest legal action Trump is taking. Recall that Ann Selzer, then chief pollster for The DesMoines Register, pushed a poll saying Vice-President Kamala Harris would carry Iowa by three points. Instead, Trump carried Iowa by 13 points. She was so embarrassed, personally and professionally, that she quit polling.

Trump believes this was more than just an outlier, or even a case of wishful thinking by Selzer. He believes someone commissioned that result, and she went along with manufacturing it. So he is suing her and her newspaper for “consumer fraud and election interference.”

The legal theory, as Root explains it, runs as follows. Trump carried Iowa in 2020 by eight points. Every other pollster predicted Trump would carry Iowa again. (Actually the real gold standard of polling is Rasmussen Reports, the most accurate pollsters in America today. They, too, predicted that Trump would carry Iowa.)

But Selzer predicted that Harris would carry Iowa by three points, and all the legacy media jumped on it. That, says Root, is no accident. A lawsuit allows the all-important weapon of pre-trial discovery. In short, Root suggests, let’s see how fast Ann Selzer will yield up the name(s) of the person(s) who paid her off to rig a poll in Harris’ favor. The Democrats thus sought to put to rest any fresh accusations of another Big Cheat.

Where did all Harris’ money come from?

But of course things didn’t work out that way. After Steve Bannon popularized the Precinct Strategy, millions of Republicans signed up to become poll watchers (accredited Party polling-place observer-challengers) and poll workers (Officers of Election, including your editor, who rose to the rank of Chief of Precinct). There would be no Suitcase Scandals this time!

But more to the point, the COVID Rules no longer applied. Furthermore, a number of States removed from their voter rolls the names of the dead and the move-outs. That’s why this election featured 3.21 million fewer votes cast than did the Election of 2020. Furthermore, Trump won the popular vote – and saw his winning margin distributed across all battleground States. That’s why he won with 312 electoral votes.

So now everyone’s asking: how did Kamala Harris raise $1.3 billion for her campaign? Everyone’s taking about how she blew the lot and finished $20 million in debt. But how did a candidate less popular, and lazier, than Biden, raise all that money?

Answer: foreign interests, using the ActBlue system, funneled all that money to her campaign. James O’Keefe famously found out about them two years ago. They made thousands of donations a day – in the names of totally unsuspecting seniors who never even saw any credit-card or bank-statement entries that would tip them off. No one drained their bank accounts or ruined their credit ratings. But those interests “filched from them their good names.”

Good name in man and woman, dear my lord,

Is the immediate jewel of their souls.

Who steals my purse steals trash; ’tis something, nothing;

Twas mine, ’tis his, and has been slave to thousands;

But he that filches from me my good name

Robs me of that which not enriches him

And makes me poor indeed. Othello III.iii.168-74

Democrats refuse to look inward

The Democrats might be able to weather that storm – after all, Trump weathered similar storms and still won reelection – if they had the support of the American people. But the haven’t, and aren’t willing to look inward as they did after the Election of 1988. Back then, a “sleeper” and utterly non-ideological State governor named Bill Clinton could rise to take the Party standard. So deft was he that, once he “lost the Congress” in 1994, he started governing like a Republican – an establishment Republican, anyway – and won reelection.

That isn’t going to happen this year. The Democrats chased all their moderates out of the Party for ideological impurity. That included two Senators (Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz.) and one former Representative (Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii). Tulsi Gabbard will join the Trump administration as Director of National Intelligence.

According to TGP’s Mike Lachance, Democrats have been holding focus groups to find out what their prospective rank-and-file think. LaChance cites this article from Politico for details. Their focus-group participants rebuke them as “ too woke, too elite, and too out of touch with working people.”

When asked to compare the Democratic Party to an animal, one participant compared the party to an ostrich because “they’ve got their heads in the sand and are absolutely committed to their own ideas, even when they’re failing.” Another likened them to koalas, who “are complacent and lazy about getting policy wins that we really need.” Democrats, another said, are “not a friend of the working class anymore.”

And what are those “own ideas”? Alphabet Soup promotion, that’s what. Shortly before the election, Team Trump ran an ad with this tag line:

Kamala is for they/them. President Trump is for you.

Democrats gave the people absolutely no reason to doubt that – and indeed every reason to believe it. Quite simply, the Alphabet Soup crowd are the new Democrat base. Never mind that those people can’t reproduce.

A cult mentality

Finally, Margaret Flavin (TGP) treats the case of Lindi Li, Women’s Co-Chair and Mid-Atlantic Regional Chair of the Democratic National Committee. At least, that’s what she was. But first she criticized the Obamas for not endorsing Harris right away. More recently she had good things to say about Pete Hegseth, Trump’s Secretary of Defense nominee. Then last Saturday on Fox and Friends she said Democrats smell like losers. (At issue: how the Democrats could spend over a billion dollars and still lose an election they “should” have won.)

The ideologues couldn’t forgive all those insults, and responded in classic Cancel Culture fashion. She said as much, and more, on the Piers Morgan Uncensored program.

“Leaving the Democratic Party is like leaving a cult!” Lindy Li tells Piers Morgan she’s lost 40,000 followers and been called a “wh*re” and a “C-word” in the past four days.

Cults never look inward – and when cults lose, they usually don’t win again. Frankly, that Trump won in 2024 after “losing” in 2020 constitutes further evidence of fraud in 2020. More to the point, the Democrats have thrown off on Trump and his supporters ever since he took that famous escalator ride in 2015. Throwing off on half your prospective voters is not the way to win votes or influence people. (It might be intended to frighten people, but will ultimately succeed only in enraging them.)

The American dystopia

Perhaps their cult mentality led the Democrats to build a dystopia that, to repeat, one has seen mainly in movies. One was Shadow on the Land (1967); another, even more chilling, was Blue Thunder (1983). The first depicted an American dictatorship with Nazi-like trappings; the second depicted extreme militarization of a city police force. But they shared this in common: the central change was due to public fears of lawlessness. One of those two movies showed evidence that the authorities had planned to create that lawlessness, to excuse their heavy-handed methods.

That is exactly what the January 6 Event was all about. The American people know that now, and that’s one reason Trump won. Trump holds the Democrats responsible – and intends to prove it in court.

That kind of trouble, no Party needs. But that’s the trouble the Democrats made for themselves. They made that trouble because the root of their ideology is utter contempt for the people and their liberties. This is both an effect and a cause – or reinforcement – of their cult mentality.

The last four years have been a sobering lesson for the American people. Let us hope they do not soon forget it.
