Menendez allegations – statement
The only surprise about the allegations against Senator Menendez is that they have taken so long to materialize.
When I started Recall NJ in order to reel in Menendez, it was based on his over-stepping his authority under our Constitution. In the course of developing the movement, I found many accusations launched against the Senator that did not stick. One of the most notable was a website called “Robert Menendez Corruption” that listed line after line of accusations and charges against Menendez that somehow he managed to give the old slip. [The site robertmenendezcorruption.com now resolves to a new site called webtherapyonline.com that looks as though someone installed WordPress on it and did nothing else. – Ed.] Recall NJ was never in a position – either monetarily or time wise – to research the allegations so we focused on what we considered to be his crimes against the Constitution. It is unfortunate that the campaign founded by Recall NJ was not allowed to go forward by decision of the NJ Supreme Court, which declared our NJ Constitution unconstitutional and blatantly ignored the proofs and arguments presented that documented our founders’ support of recalling undesirable legislators. The dissenting opinion in this matter is extraordinarily notable regarding the Court’s politically-driven opinion. Today Recall NJ is dormant but its FaceBook page is anything but, as people are posting their many complaints and distaste for the disgraceful antics of Robert Menendez.
Menendez a “nice guy”?
As distressing as the fruits of the man’s career may be, the views expressed by some of his supporters that I met personally were more distressing. These voices expressed similar sentiments: they had met Menendez, shook his hand at some point, and therefore deemed him to be a “nice” guy. I find this is especially disturbing because it is a good indicator that our elections have become nothing more than a popularity contest fueled by special interest money. There are many pedophiles and deviants that are appear to be “nice” people and may be charming to some extent; however, they are incompetent, either legislatively or morally to represent the citizens of this country. It is truly unfortunate for all of us that they are elected and re-elected with alarming regularity.

While the people of NJ gasp in horror about the embarrassment of electing such a deviant to public office, all America should be re-assessing their standards for choosing representatives. Frankly, I find it hard to believe that many, not just Menendez, represent who we are as a people. Menendez may have finally been exposed, but his recent re-election as a Senator should also expose the regular crimes committed against the Constitution by an ill-informed and complacent electorate.
RoseAnn Salanitri is the founder and former President of RecallNJ. That entity, a New Jersey corporation, has since ceased operations and is now dormant. Mrs. Salanitri left this statement in response to this article. – Ed.
